Having completed the in-depth environmental study it began in 2007, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has proposed in its draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that Roundup Ready® alfalfa could be safely deregulated. Now, USDA needs to know if the public agrees with its preliminary decision.   Winfield Solutions team members, our customers and their customers can help in supporting the USDA's draft EIS so that the Agency can complete the final EIS, and we can bring Roundup Ready alfalfa back on the market during 2010.   The deadline for all comments to be received by USDA is February 16, 2010.   You can find additional information on how to participate at http://www.roundupreadyalfalfa.com/ or you can go directly to the USDA's comment website at the following link: http://www.regulations.gov/search/Regs/home.html#submitComment?R=0900006480a6b7a1   Your comment will make a difference to: o       Support USDA's decision to (re)deregulate Roundup Ready alfalfa, and, o       Demonstrate that the choice to use biotechnology should protected.  o       Although, in the draft EIS, "USDA asserts that all methods of agricultural production (conventional, organic, and the use of genetically engineered varieties) can provide benefits to the environment, consumers, and farm income, and they could and should "coexist"" (pg. xiii), certain very vocal groups demand that USDA halt all genetically engineered (GE) agriculture.
